Stark landscapes, ancient ranges and the raw beauty of desert wilderness - this is Australia’s Red Centre at its most powerful.

Here, you’ll find some of the continent’s most iconic natural features: the sacred presence of Uluru, the massive domes of Kata Tjuta, and the rugged quartzite backbone of the West MacDonnell Ranges.

Threading through these ranges is the Larapinta Trail - one of the world’s great desert walks. Following its red ridgelines and cool, shaded gorges, you’ll traverse a living landscape rich in geological drama, ecological diversity and cultural significance.

We’ve led walks here since 1995 - the first commercial operator on the trail - and we continue to set the benchmark with our award-winning guided itineraries. On our Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort, a Great Walk of Australia, you’ll walk point-to-point along the trail, staying in three of our four exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps. Each camp is sustainably designed and uniquely positioned, offering hot showers, heated dining shelters, and private off-ground tents – with new views every night and no backtracking.

You’ll walk from the official trailhead near Alice Springs to the summit of Mt Sonder at sunrise - covering more of the trail than many other itineraries, and finishing in unforgettable style.

Join us to explore Australia’s extraordinary Red Centre - with the team that knows it best.

Sustainable active adventures

Sustainable trekking is at the core of everything we do, which is why have policies in place to ensure destinations retain their natural character and cultural diversity. Environmental values filter through every aspect of the company, from the minimal impact camping procedures through to the interpretation of environment. The aim is to give you big adventures while we maintain a small footprint!

Cultural Preservation

We continually seek ways to enhance cultural experiences and work with Indigenous leaders on many of our trips. The experiences our Indigenous leaders bring to our trips, such as cultural conversations, indigenous meal samplings, and welcome to countries, allow clients to gain a deeper understanding of the need to conserve the Aboriginal cultures and respect their place and lifestyle in Australia.

Environmental Sustainability

True sustainability in all aspects of our business planning and operations. Specifically our tours are managed in a way where the natural and cultural values of the host region are undiminished in the long-term, such as that with our Larapinta Trail eco-campsites. Where possible, we engage in partnerships with local environmental groups and/or land managers to actively campaign for conservation or promote environmental protection and/or rehabilitation.

Winter is the most popular time to walk in the Red Centre, with clear skies, light breezes and ideal daytime temperatures in the low to mid 20s°C (68–77°F). Nights can drop close to 0°C (32°F), especially in valleys, and frosty mornings are common.

Autumn and Spring offer warm days and cool nights, with average temperatures ranging from 12–27°C (54–81°F) in Autumn and 13–30°C (55–86°F) in Spring. Nights are milder.

Summer is not recommended for active adventures, with temperatures regularly reaching the mid 40s°C (113°F) and ground temperatures even higher, creating serious risk of heat stress and sun exposure.
