The Overland Track is where it all started, for us, and also for the growth in popularity of Tasmania as a walker’s paradise.
It’s also where it begins for so many of our return travellers who fall in love with the variety of the World Heritage Wilderness they experience when undertaking the world-class 65km trail from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.
We offer a number of ways to walk Tasmania’s Overland Track. For those that want pure adventure, our guided camping-based Overland Track walks, which depart in summer and winter, are the envy of the trail thanks to our food drops!
We also offer self-guided departures for more experienced walkers and a comfortable huts option for those seeking a little more comfort.
The Overland Track is Tasmania’s most popular walk. It’s wise to book early.

We proudly pioneered guided experiences on the world famous Overland Track, making our knowledge and experience in the region second to none.
Our Tasmanian active adventures offer exceptional value for money incorporating as many inclusions as possible in every tour such as meals, transport, entrance fees and permits.
Guided or self-guided, camping or huts, winter or summer. You choose which Overland Track style is best for you.
Check the trip inclusions when researching Overland Tack walks. Our high quality Trek Pack includes the most costly essential items when camping in the wilderness.
Our entire range of active holidays was awarded certification in all three programs by Ecotourism Australia. The three programs are; Advanced Ecotourism Certification, Respecting our Culture Certification, and Climate Action Business Certification.
Camping based Overland Track walks stay along the track at designated commercial campsite areas. These areas have timber platforms for our tents to be pitched on and nearby rainwater tanks and composting toilet facilities. The camps have a basic kitchen prep area however there is no other shelter or seating available.
Tasmanian Expeditions provides strong, 2 person, bushwalking tents (twin share), which provide each occupant with a personal access door and vestibule for individual use. Our tents weigh approx 3kg and this weight is shared equally by each occupant. We use a range of high quality 3-4 season tents which have been trialled and tested to withstand all weather conditions that may be encountered on our adventures.
Huts are available to stay in on the Cradle Huts Overland Track trip. These private hut accommodation are discreetly located off the main trail and offer hot showers, a drying room and twin-share accommodation.
The peak adventure travel period to Tasmania is during summer, when the average daily temperatures hover between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius. This is perfect weather for active adventures, though iconic destinations on the island can be crowded with tourists. Autumn has cooler temperatures ranging between 9-17 degrees Celsius, and travellers visiting during this season find that there are not as many crowds as you would find in summer.
The winter months between June and August are generally the wettest and coolest months both in coastal and inland regions, with the elevated areas receiving significant snowfalls. Winter maximum temperatures range between 4-11 degrees Celsius, but inland the temperatures can fall well below zero. Spring is generally the windiest time of year, with plenty of snow in high elevated regions.
Regardless of where you travel in Tasmania, always be prepared for sudden, temporary deterioration in the weather. It’s not uncommon to have heavy snowfall in the middle of summer in some regions. For this reason we recommend that regardless of what season you travel in, always carry additional warm clothing, including a waterproof outer layer.
