WINNER

2019 Brolga Award of Best Ecotourism operator - Northern Territory Tourism Awards

Australian adventure travel specialist, Australian Walking Holidays and parent company World Expeditions, has won the Northern Territory Tourism’s prestigious Brolga Award for its Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort.

The Brolga awards are the Northern Territory’s official tourism awards program and recognise and encourage tourism businesses that strive for excellence in every area of their operation.

This is the third time in recent years that the Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort has won a coveted Brolga Award, having previously been named best ecotourism product in 2016 and 2017.

The 6 day Classic Larapinta Trek in Comfort is operated by the company’s domestic brand, Australian Walking Holidays and, according to General Manager, Michael Buggy, the company is thrilled to be recognised for its ongoing commitment to providing an outstanding trekking experience while minimising the impact on the environment.

“Sustainability has been at the heart of our operations since we pioneered the trek back in 1995,” Mr Buggy said.  “Our four architecturally designed, semi-permanent campsite facilities incorporate sustainable technologies such as water-free toilets, solar lighting systems and a hybrid grey water disposal system designed for the arid environment,” he said.

“It’s been a huge commitment to deliver the standard of accommodation we do in a remote area, while remaining focussed on complete sustainability,” he said.  “and we acknowledge the support of NT Parks and Wildlife and the Indigenous Land Council in receiving this Award.”

The Ecotourism Award recognises outstanding ecologically sustainable tourism products, with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that foster environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.

The Northern Territory Tourism Brolga Awards are open to tourism operators, industry suppliers and outstanding individuals.  As a winner of the 2019 Brolga Award in the ecotourism category, Australian Walking Holidays with World Expeditions will represent the Northern Territory at the Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Canberra in March 2020.
