Encompassing the entire north east of Australia, the “Sunshine State” of Queensland offers visitors a staggering variety of landscapes and experiences.

There’s sunburnt outback, lush hinterland valleys, forest-clad mountain ranges and thundering waterfalls, the World Heritage listed treasures of the Wet Tropics Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, and almost 7000 km of coastline—home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and tropical islands.

Remarkable landscapes such as these simply demand exploring on foot, bike or kayak. Work your way around the state’s incredible National Parks, hike the volcanic mountains and sheer escarpments of the Scenic Rim region, or head north to wander in the world’s oldest rainforest.

Learn to surf on famous beaches, hop between the postcard-perfect islands of the Whitsundays, or dive and kayak among the technicolour corals of the world’s largest reef system.

Exceptional Leadership

As our client feedback will attest to, there is no better team of leaders than those at Australian Walking Holidays. Their expertise & knowledge is matched only by their friendly nature and their desire to impart everything they know about the Australian landscape to you.

Small Groups

We think small is good; it limits the environmental impact and allows you to forge life-long friendships with like-minded travellers. Feedback from our clients attests to the appeal of the small group dynamic – our clients say it's this that makes it special.

Your Comfort

The best available food, warmth and shelter is standard on our active wilderness holidays, with selected character lodgings as well as quality camp craft and equipment. This ensures that you have the most rewarding and memorable experience.

The climate in Queensland can range from comfortable and cool temperatures in the southeast, to hot and humid temperatures in the far north. Unlike Australia's southern states, Queensland rarely suffers from the chilly cold during winter, which makes a visit to the Sunshine State ideal at any time of the year. On the coastline, summer bringss highs of 28 degrees and lows of 20 degrees. In winter these temperatures can drop to 20 degrees and 9 degrees. Further north, Tropical North Queensland has temperatures that are much more humid and hot than the southern regions, with summer temperatures reaching over 31 degrees during the day, with humidity levels that reach over 75%. During winter, temperatures drop to a comfortable 26 degrees, and with less rainfall, this is an ideal time to visit the northern region of the state.
