Our story

Guiding small groups to Australia's top remote destinations

Get off the beaten tourist-track with Australian Walking Holidays one of Australia’s most experienced trekking and adventure operators.

With a portfolio of over 26 mainland and 25 Tasmanian itineraries, our exclusive itineraries are based on over 40 years experience in creating trekking and active holidays in Australia's wildest, remotest and most spectacular pockets.

Our itineraries offer an unbeatable experience of Australia’s greatest wilderness destinations in the most appropriate style for that environment. Because we are committed to wilderness travel, we also offer a couple of itineraries that involve alternative means of getting about, like white water rafting, sea kayaking and even camel-supported trips.

Our groups are small (between 8 to 16 people) so as to minimise impact and maximise experience of the wilderness. Our leaders are some of the most experienced in the field and they delight in sharing their local knowledge and insights with the group.

Embracing the lands in which we walk

We believe travel is about embracing the nature, culture and people of each destination, which is why we strive to create unique and innovative adventures that give travellers an immersive experience in a destination, with minimal impact to the environment.

We believe travelling is more than just sight-seeing and advocate for "slow tourism"
- taking time to absorb, enjoy and savour the experience.

Our passion lies in the remote and rural landscapes of mainland Australia and Tasmania. Far from the concrete jungles of cities and urban sprawls, where wedge tailed eagles soar and eucalyptus trees are home to hundreds of native birds; where sleeping under the stars in the middle of the wilderness shows the true beauty of the stars and the Milky Way.

We live and breathe adventure travel in Australia’s remote corners. With over 40 years experience comes an unparalleled passion, dedication and ambition to provide the most special and immersive experiences. We are proud of our small group tours, and love sharing the beauty and experiences of Australia’s diverse landscape with you, our travellers.

Active adventures can broaden your perspectives, get you closer to nature and give you a newfound appreciation for the protection and conservation of the land.

  • Adventurous

  • Challenging

We know that challenging yourself physically and mentally can be one of the most fulfilling and worthwhile experiences, and we encourage travellers to step outside their comfort zones to experience a challenge in nature.

  • Natural

Australia is a vast landscape with spectacular natural beauty and some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth. Whether it’s our desert landscape, lush tropics, wild and remote islands or rugged coastlines, nothing beats being immersed in nature!

  • Welcoming

Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a first timer looking for a beginners active adventure, you can be guaranteed you will be joining a guided trek of supportive, likeminded individuals  who are eager to get the most out of the trip.
