And they have returned...the first group of Larapinta Trail walkers of the 2019 walking season. The small group of 9 walkers, mostly made up of a family departed on 8 April from Telegraph Station, the birth place of the Alice Springs township. In 1871, the first European settlers made Alice Springs home and Australia's Overland Telegraph Line commenced relaying messages between Darwin and Adelaide via the new township. Guided by our passionate wilderness guides, the group headed on the 6 day Classic Larapinta Trek In Comfort, which takes in the highlights of the 223km Larapinta Trail. The group voted Standley Chasm, Ormiston Gorge, Simpsons Gap, viewing the sunrise from atop of Mount Sonder and the experience of walking along the ancient landscape of the West MacDonnell Ranges as some of their favourite sites. 
 
 
Each day after their day's walk on the trail, the group headed to our private award-winning semi-permanent eco-campsites to relax under the grand communal canopy or take a hot shower, while the guides prepared a delicious evening meal. After dessert around the campfire, reliving some of the day's adventure, several guests pulled their stretcher beds outside to sleep under the sparkling night sky. What an experience!

The next group of 6 trekkers with their guides headed out the 9th of April on the Best of the Larapinta Trail, a 9 day trekking adventure carrying a full pack discovering the hidden gems of the Larapinta Trail. Camping in the wilderness, just like the group prior, the highlights were sleeping under the stars, cooling off at Birthday Waterhole and the over-whelming feeling of the ancient history and landscape they are experiencing. 
 
 
Many walkers return to the Larapinta Trail to experience it during the different open seasons, walk new sections (there's 12 sections of the trail), challenge themselves on harder sections, experience new themes such as art expeditions and yoga or stay in comfortable campsites with amenities. 
 
 
There’s a Larapinta Trail trip to suit everyone, Australian Walking Holidays has over 12 itineraries ranging from a 3 day experience to a 14 day traverse of the entire 223km trail. You can join a guided small group staying at the exclusive campsites, and there are themed itineraries from art expeditions to yoga and meditation to women's only departures to National Geographic active expedition trips.
