Girraween National Park is home to many awe-inspiring natural wonders including massive granite rock formations, cascading creeks and red gum woodland. In the local Indigenous language Girraween means ‘place of flowers’, and spring is the peak time for wildflowers in bloom. On this tour you will spend 5 days discovering the National Park in Queensland with the walks easily accessible from our private base camp.

You'll spend 4 nights camping at an exclusive campsite where every comfort has been thought of. You'll have all meals prepared by our chef, spend each night in our comfortable tents, and enjoy marveling at the night sky while sitting around the campfire. Eastern grey kangaroos graze around the campground and multitudes of birdlife can be observed throughout area. The walks each day take in the diverse landscape of the region, from the massive granite rock formations, to cascading waterfalls and freshwater creeks. All in all, this is an epic and immersive experience.

Itinerary

To join this trip you can either self drive to the Girraween National Park or arrange an airport transfer (an additional supplement applies for the transfer). You will need to arrive by 3:00pm. Enjoy afternoon tea and cakes on arrival. You will settle into camp and your well-appointed tent this afternoon. Your guides will take the group on a short stroll to the nearby fresh water creek where will admire the magnificent Terrawambella granite summit. Returning to camp dinner will be served around the campfire. You'll get to know your guides and group under the stars this evening. Overnight Camp.

After a delicious breakfast surrounded by grazing kangaroos, your guides will pack a sumptuous lunch and together you will trek towards Terrawambella. At the summit you’ll appreciate the true magnificence of Girraween and its unique granite rock formations. The return journey takes you to the impossibly balanced Granite Arch boulders before returning to camp for a well earned post-walk dip in the waterhole near the campground. You can laze on the warm granite rock with views of Terrawambella before returning to camp for a delicious dinner. Overnight Camp. Walking distance: 8km

With lunches packed, your guides will take you along the creekside pathway surrounded by red gums, wildflowers and birdlife towards The Junction. This paradise waterway of smooth granite, cascading creeks and pristine swimming holes is where you will settle down for lunch and have the opportunity to take a dip in the cool creek waters. Spend the evening relaxing around the campfire while your guides prepare another scrumptious dinner. Overnight Camp. Walking distance: 8km

Today's walk further reveals the true uniqueness of the Girraween granite rock. Summiting Castle Rock will provide some breathtaking 360°views. Further on you’ll be amazed by the up close view of the huge balanced boulders of The Sphinx, whilst at Turtle Rock you’ll see The Sphinx in all its glory. With wildflower blooms in abundance, this walk through the red gums and rocks will fill you with wonder. We have one final night together to enjoy a good meal and good chat around the campfire. Walking distance: 10km

After another warm and comfortable sleep our chefs will prepare one last breakfast with locally sourced produce and Byron Bay grown coffee beans. Enjoy one final bask in the glories of Girraween before the trip concludes at 10am.

We believe our walking adventures are heaps of fun, and we want to ensure you have the best experience possible. It’s important to us that you have the fitness and skills to enjoy your time with us so please read on. For our full day bush walking experiences, participants require a good level of fitness and must be willing and able to walk over rugged terrain with some steep ascents and descents. In order to complete this walk you should already have a good level of fitness and ideally undertake regular exercise three or fours times a week. Experience hill walking with a day pack is recommended. Participants will get the most out of their walk if they feel comfortable walking up and down stairs and on uneven ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is some phone reception in specific areas near the camping area. There is phone reception in some parts of the National Park but you will not have full reception throughout the trip.

Yes, you will be able to charge your phone/devices via USB ports at the camp. There is limited access and the ports are shared amongst the group so we recommend bringing your own portable chargers.

Parking is available directly next to the campsite and parking fees are covered in the trip cost.
