Active trips for all ages

Did you know that our trips have minimum and maximum age limits? This is to ensure the safety of the client, enjoyment for the group, and ensure that the gear we supply fits our clients for the purpose they are intended. With so many wonderful locations around Australia, there are plenty of reasons why a family active adventure should be your next big trip.

    Some of our family specific departures are timed for school holidays, which makes you much more likely to travel with other like-minded families. We’ve found that on our select family departures, children tend to hit it off with other kids straight away, with friendships lasting long after the adventure finishes.

  • Small group sizes

    Our average group sizes range from 6-16 clients, which means that they can be small enough to be intimate, or just big enough for a good social mix between travellers.

  • Full of adventure

    Want a sure-fire way to keep the kids entertained, educated and active over a few days? Our family adventures have plenty of activities that are perfect for children. Whether it involves bushwalking, cycling, kayaking or rock climbing, you can rest assured that by the end of the day your kids will be reminiscing their experiences as they fall asleep each evening.

  • Your safety our priority

    Your well-being is our first priority. Our guides receive extensive first aid and emergency response training and carry mobile & satellite phones or 2-way radios. Our industry leading risk management procedures and field knowledge mean that you are in safe hands, with 24 hour back up and evacuation procedures in place.

  • Responsible travel

    Sustainable active adventures is at the core of everything we do, which is why have policies in place to ensure destinations retain their natural character and cultural diversity. Environmental values filter through every aspect of the company, from the minimal impact camping procedures through to the interpretation of environment. The aim is to give you big adventures while we maintain a small footprint!

    Imagine bringing your family together to create cherished memories by sharing experiences like trekking the Larapinta Trail, embarking on the Jatbula Trail, trekking the Overland Track or exploring Kakadu with just your family and friends. Most of our trips are also available as private departures, or can be tailored to meet your needs and expectations. Simply contact our private groups team and let us do all the work!

Frequently Asked Questions

Some of our public departures have age restrictions of generally 12 year-16 years and older. This is to ensure the safety of the client, enjoyment & gear that we supply to fit. However, for certain trips such as our Kakadu Walking Adventure and Overland Track, family-friendly departures are scheduled for school holidays and accept children from 8 years and above.

Our guides have experience working with children for our family friendly departures, and maintain a friendly, approachable and educational stance on our trips. However, our guides are not employed to provide childcare on our trips. Our guides primary role is to manage the trip logistics and safety, whilst providing context to the areas in which we explore through educational and informative talks throughout the trip. With this in mind, parents must be responsible for children at all times.

On certain trips, children can choose to opt in / out of activities if they are tired. As parents must be responsible for children at all times, at least one parent must remain with their child to supervise them if they opt out of an activity.

The family-friendly trips that we operate include activities that are suitable for all ages, not just children. If you would like an itinerary that specifically caters for your child’s need please contact our groups team who will be able to craft a private itinerary with your needs and wants in mind.

Please ensure you let us know your dietary preferences well in advance so we can prepare an appropriate menu. If we are informed of dietary requirements in advance (at least one month prior to your trip) we are able to cater for vegetarian diets and can assist with medically recommended diets (allergies and intolerance).

Our family departures are scheduled for school holidays, so while you may find other families join on the trip, there may also be regular travellers on the trip.
